BCS National Championship Game Preview: LSU v. Alabama

Not even going to pretend to throw out some football analysis here. I think we all know just how evenly matched these teams are, so for me to try to nitpick through defensive formations or playcalling tendencies would just be stupid. Plus, nobody comes here for football analysis anyway. You come here for cheerleaders.

Well, we're going to switch things up for tonight's national championship game. So far we have previewed every single bowl game this season with pictures of both teams' cheerleaders. For the title game, we're going one-on-one. Each team gets one cheerleader to represent why they should have your support tonight.

We'll start with the Tigers of LSU and their representative Natalie. Natalie is a member of the world famous LSU Golden Girls, and she works the shit out of that crazy bedazzled white leotard thingy.

I think this is easily the best non-BCS match-up of the entire bowl season. No doubt both of these teams have legitimate arguments why they should be playing in a BCS bowl. And yes, I'm disregarding the rule preventing Arkansas from playing in a BCS game because they just happen to play in a division with 2 other BCS participants. It's a stupid rule and yet another example of why the BCS is a joke.

Regardless, both of these teams are automatic qualifiers, so we can't even bitch about either of them being here. It's going to burn even more when Clemson spanks the Mountaineers on national television.

Tomorrow afternoon's New Mexico Bowl is the first game of the 2011-2012 bowl season. And this one is actually a better game than I expected. Both teams come in at 8-4, not the 6-6 I assumed. Obviously I have to pull for Wyoming due to head coach Dave Christensen's ties to Mizzou. So let's go Cowboys!

I can't believe the Heisman committee actually got it right. Instead of going with the most pro-ready guy (Andrew Luck) or the guy on the best team (Trent Richardson or the Honey Badger), they actually picked the guy that had the greatest season (though you could make a strong argument that was Monte Ball). RGIII is a ridiculous. Dude can kill you with his arm or his legs. I don't know if he's going to make it in the NFL, but I sure hope he gets a shot.

Game of the Week: #2 Ohio State v. #13 Kansas

For the last 14 weeks our Game of the Week post has focused on football, but now it's time to head to the hardwood. In this lull between the end of the regular season and the start of the bowl season, college hoops is once again king. Even if just for a week or so.

But that doesn't mean we shouldn't spotlight an early season battle of Top 15 teams. Kansas doesn't have it's usual firepower this year, but that doesn't mean Ohio State should take them lightly. This game is still being played at Allen Fieldhouse, and that is a damn tough place to win. That being said, I expect Sully & Co. to thump the Jayhawks by double digits.

We've actually highlighted Bethany before, but that was when she cheered at Stephen F. Austin. Apparently she has moved up in the world and started cheering for a Division 1 school in Memphis. The inaugural Big 10 should be a good one. I expected the teams in this game to be a little higher ranked, but oh well. I think it's got the potential to be the best conference championship of the year. I like Wisconsin in this one, but it's so evenly matched that's pretty much a guess.

The Tigers had a great chance to get into the national championship picture this year before ripping off 3 stupid losses in four games. Even though it's not an actual championship game, the Bedlam Game is the de facto Big 12 Championship Game this season. And it's a big one. Georgia is a pretty darn good football team. After losing their first two games, the Bulldogs have ripped off 10 straight wins and find themselves in the SEC Championship game. What a barn burner for the first ever Pac-12 Championship Game. Oregon is a good squad, but thanks to USC's cheatin'-ass ways, 6-6 UCLA gets the honor of representing the Pac-12 South this year. Which means if UCLA loses (and they should) the Pac-12 South "champion" won't be playing in a bowl this year. Wow, that is not good.

There wasn't a single upset in the BCS Top 25 this week, so I had to think outside of the box to figure out a weekly winner. And I figured there wasn't a team that won bigger this week than Ohio State. Sure they lost their game to their biggest rival in the world, but they did get the biggest fish on the coaching market this week.

Inking Urban Meyer should shoot Ohio State right back into the world of respectable college football. On the field, at least.

Mizzou Golden Girl Karielle By Request

While it was an awfully specific request, I actually recognized the girl from watching Mizzou games and told the reader I would do what I could. So I'm finally here to fulfill that request. And this post is just in the nick of time because this is the end of Hate Week here in the midwest. Today is the day Missouri and Kansas play for the 120th (and possibly last) time. We're such rivals we can't even agree on the all-time series record. Mizzou counts a forfeit (after the game in 1960) by Kansas as win, but Kansas still counts that game as a victory for them. Crazy.

But now that Mizzou is moving to the SEC, Kansas doesn't want to play us anymore. They say it's because the rivalry is a Big 12 rivalry. I thought rivalries were bigger than conference affiliation. Especially rivalries that extend all the way back to the Civil War. Whatever, take your ball and go home Jayhawks. We'll just find someone else to slaughter every year.

Game of the Week: #3 Arkansas v. #1 LSU

A few weeks back I called the LSU v. Alabama game the game of the year. But it seems that may have been a little premature. As big as that game was, this game is really going to decide who gets to play in the National Championship game. I don't see Arkansas pulling this one off, but it's going to be a great game.

I've never heard of North Alabama, but I ran across this little cutie in my scouring of the internet and felt like I had to show the state's oldest 4-year public university of some love.

This was the biggest upset of the week, and not just because of the ranked team that lost. Sure it's a big deal when the #2 team in the country loses, but I think we all kinda figured Oklahoma State might lose to Oklahoma next week. The bigger shock is that they lost to Iowa State. The Cyclones aren't very good at all. But they were good enough Friday night to throw the entire BCS system into a frenzy.

Oregon's furious comeback in the 4th quarter fell short when they missed a field goal with 5 seconds left. And it wasn't even close!
