It wasn't long that this game would feature the #3 and #24 ranked teams in the country with the rankings flip flopped. But this is 2014 and Ole Miss is the new big kid on the block while LSU struggles to hold on to national relevance.
Fortunately for us, both spirit squads will ALWAYS be relevant around here!
It wasn't that long ago that North Carolina's football team was pretty decent and making some serious waves in the ACC. I look today and they are dead last in their division. Sure their 4 losses have been to decent teams, but they just don't look very good this year.
All the Midnight Madness frenzy is in the books, so the real work is about to start. And for the UCONN Huskies, that means the battle to defend their title is officially on. Do you think the Huskies have what it takes to repeat? The USA Today Coaches Poll has them at #15, so I'm guessing they don't think so.
Regardless of their ability to repeat, I'm ready to get their cheerleaders and dancers back on the court!
The other big upset of the weekend also happened to come out of the Big 12, and this one was a doozy! The Baylor hype train was chugging full steam ahead, but apparently it couldn't get past the burning couches of West Virginia.
Remember when Bob Stoops used to talk about how overrated the SEC is? Yeah, that was pretty funny. Big Game Bob got taken out at home this weekend by a Kansas State team that has about 1/4 of the recruiting prowess of a team like Oklahoma. And now the Wildcats are in the driver's seat in the Big 12.
How far has UCLA basketball fallen to not even be in the preseason coaches' Top 25? I mean, Nebraska is ranked #21 in the poll. I know Pauley Pavilion's floor was ruined, but this might be an even bigger slap in the face to the program.
On the bright side, they still have their world renowned cheerleaders and dancers, so not all is lost for the Bruins! Props to bulgo125 for the pictures.
It's just a matter of time before Jameis Winston is ruled ineligible for signing autographs for pay, but you know it's not going to be before Notre Dame comes to town. If we know anything about Florida State, it's they are willing to win at almost any cost. You don't come be known as Free Sneaker University by following the rules.
But since he is unlikely to miss such a massive game (especially the week after Florida State lost their #1 ranking), this matchup is still our Game of the Week. While I don't think Notre Dame has the horses to keep up with the Seminoles, I'm pretty terrible at picking winners. So I fully expect the Fighting Irish to pull this off.
A little of the shine may have worn off the Texas A&M football squad from their early season hype, but that has had absolutely no impact on the Aggie dancers. They are still as shiny and gorgeous as ever!
Back at the beginning of the season we talked about whether or not this would be the year the Kentucky Wildcats broke through and made it to a bowl game. It was an iffy proposition at the time, but I think we can go ahead and pencil the Wildcats into a bowl slot now.
Over on Pro Cheerleader Heaven yesterday, we coined the term "Overhead Cheer Circle" to properly name the common photo taken from above a group of cheerleaders lying on their backs in a big circle. It's one of my favorite pictures, so I thought it deserved a name.
So imagine my joy when I found this picture of the Florida State cheerleaders making their own Overhead Cheer Circle picture. I swear, I'm going to make this a thing!
While it may not be an upset on the level of last week's monumental defeats, Duke still knocked off a tough Georgia Tech team on the road and ended a 10 year losing streak to the Yellow Jackets. That's good enough for the Weekly Winners!
The swing of the hips and the shit-eating grin on her face tell me this East Carolina dancer is having an absolute blast. And she's got to be stoked about how her Pirates have started this football season!
Well this game got a lot more interesting in a hurry! This was always going to be a battle of ranked teams, but after Mississippi State's massive upset last and unprecedented climb in the rankings this is a big deal. I'm sure Auburn is really stoked about walking in Starksville the weekend after State's first ever Top 5 ranking.
Of course, this is just another weekend in the SEC. Top 5 match-ups have become the norm at this point.
We have another slew of great college football games lined up this weekend, so we're going to have another multi-part Game of the Week Cheerleader Preview this week. I'm pretty sure no one is going to complain this week either.
The first game on our plate is TCU travelling to Waco to put their new found Top 10 status on the line against the high-flying Baylor Bears offense. I'm not sure TCU is the 9th best team in the country right now, but if they pull this one off they are going to be legit contenders in just about everyone's eyes.
Plus, this might be the best match-up of cheerleaders all season, let alone this week!
I know absolutely nothing about the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, but a loyal reader sent me some pictures he took of their cheerleaders at a recent football game and I'd be remiss not to share them. So now I have to go out and learn more about the Mocs!
