Temple Dancer Amber Gets Sports Illustrated Glory

It's only been a couple of weeks since we featured Temple dancer Vanessa here on College Cheerleader Heaven, but I felt like the time was right to go back to the Diamond Gems well. And lucky me, guess who the good folks at Sports Illustrated decided to feature? Another Temple dancer.

Amber has been a friend of CCH for a few years, but somehow we just never connected to get her featured on our pages. Oh well, I guess an SI Cheerleader of the Week feature is a pretty good consolation gift.

See the rest of Amber's feature here. Photo credit to Yeung Photography.

The USC Song Girls Dominate the Swim with Mike Charity Event Again in 2015

We have covered the Swim with Mike charity event since 2009, and it has always gone swimmingly (see what I did there?). So of course we have to share pictures from the 2015 version of the event.

Once again we turn to the old stand by Ben Chua for our pictures this year. If you would like to know more about this wonderful charity, please check out SwimWithMike.org.

The LSU Golden Girls Hit the Beach

Now is the time of year when college cheerleaders and dancers are gearing up for the start of the year. They are starting to get in (better) shape and work on new routines they intend to bust out this football season. It can be a grueling time of year for these ladies, so it is just as important to get a little down time and focus on team bonding when they can.

Which is exactly why a group of LSU Golden Girls hit the beach recently. Nothing screams R&R like a trip to beach with your best friends. I'm sure that one day of bonding did as much for their squad as 2 days of practice. I can't wait to see what they come up with this year!

I Love This Picture of the Nebraska Cheerleaders

As a Mizzou fan, I really don't feel much love towards the Nebraska Cornhuskers. In the last few years both teams were in the Big 12, the rivalry had grown pretty strong. And even though both schools have moved on to greener pastures, I still can't really let go of that animosity.

Unless the Cornhuskers cheerleaders are involved. If the cheerleaders are around, then I have absolutely no problem with Big Red. And if they are wearing their old school uniforms with the cowboys boots, then I might even root for them. I am that much of a sucker for cheerleaders in cowboy boots.

Florida State Cheer Brings Us the Two Person Overhead Cheer Circle

I have to admit, I had some internal struggle about posting this picture. Not because these girls aren't gorgeous. And not because they cheer for a team that is really hard to like right now. No, this crisis of conscience was more of the mathematical variety

See, I've never witnessed a two person Overhead Cheer Circle before. Honestly, I'm not sure it's even possible to make an Overhead Cheer Circle with just two people. But in the end my heart won out over my brain and these Florida State cheerleaders get to make history.

I'm sure this is a memory they will keep with them forever!

The UIC Flames Take Over Cheer Selfie Saturday

Somehow this is only the 3rd time the UIC cheerleaders and dancers have been featured on College Cheerleader Heaven. The first, of course, was a wonderful feature of probably the sexiest oboe player in the world: UIC cheerleader Maria.

But now the Flames cheerleaders are taking over Cheer Selfie Saturday and bringing their Chi-town spunk to the forefront. Get it girls!

FCS Friday Slides into New York City to Meet the Hofstra Cheerleaders

Apparently I know nothing about Hofstra University. I had no clue it was located in New York City (technically Hempstead, but who's counting). And I was equally ignorant of their teams' nickname: the Pride. They used to be called the Flying Dutchmen, but switched their moniker in 2004. If I'm being honest, I like the Flying Dutchmen better.

If that wasn't enough, I also found out that their cheer squad is a 9-time national champ including 2 different titles in 2015! They won UCA Small Coed Division 1 title and the World University Small Coed title this year. Very impressive girls! That alone earns you a spot on our FCS Friday line-up!

The school also boasts a very cool list of alums including James Caan, Francis Ford Coppola, Christopher Walken, and UFC champ Chris Weidman.

The Baylor Spirit Squads Had a Little Beach Time During March Madness

During last year's NCAA basketball tournament the Baylor Bears pulled down the #3 seed and headed to beautiful Jacksonville, FL. Which means some of the cheerleaders and dancers also got to head down to Jacksonville. As college cheerleaders and dancers are wont to do, they carved out a little time in their busy schedule for a little jaunt to the beach. Of course, shenanigans and pictures followed. They even had a chance to drop an Overhead Cheer Circle on us!

Unfortunately for the Bears cheerleaders and dancers, that was the best time they would have as their squad ended up losing in epic fashion to the Georgia State Panthers in the first round. But at least there was time for the beach!

Do LA Girls Wear Cowboy Hats? This UCLA Cheerleader Does!

I've never been to Los Angeles, so all I know about the City of Angeles I've gleaned from Entourage. So, basically, I'm an expert. Now that you have my credentials, I have to admit some level of ignorance. I have no idea if the girls in LA wear cowboy hats. Is it a common thing? Is country music popular in Southern Cali? I just have no idea if the streets of Los Angeles are teaming with cowgirls.

What I do know is that at least one UCLA cheerleader that rocks a cowboy hat, and she rocks it well. Honestly, she should probably wear one every day. That's how well she pulls off this look!

I Love The Wyoming Golden Spurs Dance Team's Nickname

There are plenty of quality squad names among Division I college cheer and dance squads, but I'm really starting to grow partial to the Golden Spurs dancers of Wyoming.

Now I'm not a cowboy. Far from it, actually. And I've never worn a pair of spurs in my life. But you can't tell me that "Golden Spurs" isn't the absolute most appropriate name for a Wyoming dance team. It's flat out perfect and anything else would just be a joke!

This Pitt Cheerleader Looks a Little Frightened of Her Parrot Friend

I'm not sure exactly why this Pitt cheerleader has a parrot on her shoulder, but she looks equal parts frightened, excited and wigged out. Do they have a lot of parrots in Pittsburgh? What is going on here?

The Middle Tennessee State Cheerleaders are Back!

It's been almost a full year since we last visited the Middle Tennessee State cheerleaders. We haven't had much reason to get to Murfreesboro lately, so the Blue Raiders cheerleaders just haven't been on our radar. But we'll do a better job of covering Conference USA this year, we promise!

The Florida Gators are Ready for the Season to Start!

It's been a rough couple of years in Gainesville. Not only has their squad been pretty bad, but their in-state rival in Tallahassee has been tearing it up. But the hope is a new coach and a new sense of Gator pride will right the ship and bring some glory back to the Swamp.

For me, I just hope their cheerleaders continue to take selfies and get themselves featured on Cheer Selfie Saturday. Is that so much to ask?

Portland State Cheer is Back for FCS Friday!

Portland State had to wait three years between College Cheerleader Heaven posts last time, so I figured it was only fair to cut down that wait time considerably this go-around. Of course, we didn't have FCS Friday last time, so that was part of the problem. Now we have no excuse.

And while we usually get our Vikings cheerleader shots from our pal bulgo125, we didn't go back to that well this time. Instead we found some great pictures of the girls at this year's national cheer championships in Daytona Beach. There's just something about cheerleaders at the beach that makes everything right with the world, wouldn't you agree?

Here's the Only Picture I Could Find From the Stony Brook Dance Team Car Wash

I know that the Stony Brook dance team had their annual car wash this weekend. We saw the announcements and tried to share them on Facebook and Twitter. But now I'm trying to find out if the car wash was a success.

Unfortunately, the only thing I can find is one picture, and I have no idea if they made any money or not. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this for us. I really hope they make a ton of cash!

Temple Diamond Gem Vanessa Makes History

I think we are making history today on College Cheerleader Heaven. I believe (though I'm not 100% sure and I'm way too lazy to actually look it up) this is the first time we have ever featured a second dancer or cheerleader from the same school. Back in February we featured Deja and filled you in on her plans to take over the music industry.

Today we are back with the Temple Diamond Gems and featuring Deja's teammate Vanessa. A junior Communication Studies major, Vanessa also has her sights set on the entertainment industry. She's thinking broadcasting or advertising, but hasn't narrowed it down quite yet.

There is also a chance Vanessa continues her dance career after college. She loves living on the East Coast, so we'll have to keep an eye out for her over at Pro Cheerleader Heaven in a couple of years. Based on her love to the city (and Temple's quick access to Philly), I'm guessing we'll see her somewhere big. I'm think the Knick City Dancers would welcome her with open arms.

But until then this Catholic school grad will continue to read anything she can get her hands on and hitting the gym while cheering on her beloved Owls. And we'll be around for the next 2 years to follow her on this journey!
