The Illinois Dance Team is Fire

The sports programs at Illinois have been struggling for a few years now. The football made a bowl game this year and the basketball team got crushed at home in their first round NIT game. And that was a good year compared to the recent past for the Illini.

One of the few bright spots in the entire athletic department recently has been the Illini Dance Team. While the teams on the field may be struggling, the dancers keep crushing it on the sidelines and bringing all kinds of heat. Keep it up ladies, maybe the product on the field will catch up soon.

Too Bad Villanova Isn't in the Final Four This Weekend

I didn't really have a team to root for in the NCAA Tournament this year, so I was in search of at least someone to support. For some reason I landed on Villanova. No real reason other than the fact they've only been to the Final Four once since their magical 1985 season. Oh, and the fact that I think their dance squad is severely underrated.

But, alas, I brought my own special kind of anti-mojo to the Wildcats and saddled them with a 2nd round upset. That's pretty much the norm for my teams. Sorry about that Wildcats fans. My bad. Now we don't get to see the Villanova dance team on the sidelines in Indianapolis.

At least we get to see them on the pages of College Cheerleader Heaven!

A Trio of Gamecocks Dancers on Cheer Selfie Saturday

On this gorgeous Cheer Selfie Saturday we decided to go with a trio of South Carolina Gamecocks dancers to brighten your day. Because let's be honest, if those smiles don't warm your heart just a little bit you might not have one!

FCS Friday with the Eastern Washington Eagles

We are spending this edition of FCS Friday with one of our favorite squads regardless of size. The cheerleaders of Eastern Washington have been very good to College Cheerleader Heaven over the last year or so. They've sent us pictures, been the subject of features and supported us along the way.

So we're going to repay the Eagles cheerleaders with their 13th CCH post. That is unprecedented number of posts for a school the size of Eastern Washington. Just goes to show that the love is mutual!

The Wyoming Dance Team Takes Quality Pictures Together

I'm a big fan of the University of Wyoming dance team, and these squad pictures only serve to strengthen that fandom. Instead of taking a simple "let's all stand and smile at the camera" pictures, the Wyoming dancers prefer to have a little fun with their pictures.

Though, honestly, I can't decide which of these two pictures I like more.

Georgia State Teaches Us How to Take an Overhead Cheer Circle Picture

We've been posting what we call Overhead Cheer Circle pictures for a couple of months now here on College Cheerleader Heaven. And the trend is starting to take off. Just a couple of weeks ago the Temple Diamond Gems sent me an Overhead Cheer Circle shot they took just for us. Now that is cool.

But it got me to wondering: how exactly do you take this kind of picture? I assumed you had a photographer and a ladder, but apparently that isn't the only way to get it done.

After posting an Overhead Cheer Circle of the Georgia State dancers I discovered how their picture was taken. They gave a GSU cheerleader a camera and had her climb up on a male GSU cheerleader's shoulders to get just the right angle. And then she took a Cheer Selfie / Overhead Cheer Circle combo shot that about break our blog.

Well done Panthers spirit squads!

The Gonzaga Cheerleaders Better Not Look Past UCLA

While Gonzaga sits poised to face Duke in this weekend's Elite Eight, the Bulldogs better not be looking past 11-seed UCLA. Because if you have learned anything from visiting this blog over the years, it's the fact that the UCLA cheerleaders are almost capable of pulling off this upset all on their own.

So that means the Gonzaga cheerleaders and dancers are going to have step things up to get their boys that date with destiny and the Blue Devils in the next round. For some reason, I think they are up to the challenge!

Thanks to our man bulgo125 for the pics!

Now We Know Why Kansas Won't Play Wichita State!

For the last few years Wichita State fans have been clamoring to play in-state college basketball blue blood Kansas. The Jayhawks have responded, in true Jayhawk fashion, by patting little Wichita State on the head and telling them to go back to the Missouri Valley Conference and leave the real basketball to the big kids.

But this year the NCAA tournament committee did us all a favor and set up a second round match-up between the Shockers and the Jayhawks. As they are keen to do, the committee just couldn't pass up the storyline. And now we know why Kansas has been ducking their little brother for so long. The Shockers absolutely put it on Kansas yesterday, so we get to celebrate with the Shockers Dance Team. That means we all win!

Florida Gators Cheerleader is Not Impressed

Remember the whole McKayla Maroney is not impressed meme that went around a couple of years ago? Well, I think we've found the successor. This Florida Gators cheerleader is definitely not impressed, but the hard part is figuring out what failed to impress her.

Was it Will Muschamp's play-callings? Jeff Driskell's passing ability? There are so many things to choose from on the football side of things I don't even know where to begin. And don't even get me started on basketball. It's been a rough year in Gainesville, and this cheerleader is fully conveying her disapproval!

Cheer Selfie Saturday: Throwback Style

The Stanford Dollies are a very select group of ladies that represent Stanford University at sporting events all year. In true Stanford fashion, the Dollies are unique compared to some of their counterparts at other universities.

For example, we shared pictures earlier this year of the Dollies breaking out some 1950s style poodle skirts and red horn-rimmed glasses for the Big Game against Cal. We also ran across a Dollies cheer selfie from that game that brought the past right into the future kicking and screaming. A perfect addition to the Cheer Selfie Saturday pantheon!

FCS Friday: Tennessee-Chatanooga Mocs

Our inaugural FCS Friday with the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers went pretty well, so I figured we'd keep going with it. I also thought we would stay with the very unintended theme of squads with crazy nicknames. After the Chanticleers, though, I not sure the Mocs of Tennessee-Chattanooga is quite as obscure.

UTC moved away from the politically insensitive Moccasins nickname to Mocs back in the late 90s. Mocs is short for the "fiercely territorial" mockingbird. Not to be confused with the Mockingjay, of course.

So here is to Mocs and their dance team. Both winners in my book.

Oklahoma State Dancers Come Off the Slopes to Cheer in the Tourney

We haven't checked in with the Oklahoma State dancers since we last saw them on the slopes of Colorado upholding a long squad tradition of hitting the slopes and taking bikini-topped pictures to commemorate the trip.

Well tomorrow night the Cowboys dancers will be cheering their squad on to victory in the dreaded 8-9 game of the NCAA tournament. I don't know if the Cowboys can beat Oregon (I hate picking that 8-9 game in the first round!), but I do know the dance squad is ready to give it their all!

Ole Miss Made the First Four Worth Watching Last Night

I'm not a huge Ole Miss basketball fan. I think it's a holdover from the Marshall Henderson days. Damn I hated that guy. But they pulled off a hell of a comeback last night that turned a night of games none of care about into a pretty fun night.

The other fun part of their 17-point comeback? Now we get to feature the Ole Miss cheerleaders. That's a win-win for all us in my book!

South Alabama is about More than Just Triplets

My knowledge of the University of South Alabama pretty much begins and ends with the Graves Triplets. We were the first outlet that I'm aware of to bring the gorgeous trio to light, so we have a strong connection to the triplets.

But USA is about more than just triplets. Hell, the Graves girls aren't even there anymore (at least to my knowledge). There are plenty of hotties running around the sidelines down in Mobile, so I guess it's time to move on and find out more about the Jaguars cheerleaders and dancers.

I Can't Believe the Temple Diamond Gems Got Snubbed!

The Temple basketball team has a right to upset about being left out of the NCAA tournament this year. The Owls went 23-10 this year and absolutely had a tournament-worthy season. But more importantly, the Temple Diamond Gems dance squad got snubbed today, and that is something that I will not stand for. Someone needs to be held accountable for this egregious misjustice!

Now my pal Deja and her teammates are sidelined for the rest of the year. Who can I complain to about this?
