The TCU Showgirls Dominated Their CMT Appearance

Apparently the folks at CMT had a show called The Ultimate Kickoff Party just before the college football national championship game. I don't watch a lot of CMT (or any, honestly), so I missed this one. Which is unfortunate because the TCU Showgirls were on stage with Big & Rich and they absolutely killed it.

Honestly, you could put our pal Sierra and her Showgirls teammates on any show on any channel and I'd tune in. You would too!

The Eastern Washington Cheerleaders are Back!

I think it's safe to say the Eastern Washington cheerleaders have become my new favorite FCS cheer squad. The love affair really got started back in 2009 when we first featured the Eagles cheerleaders and started sharing pictures from our pal bulgo125. Then things picked up during our Washington Week feature. The final straw was our birthday feature for Lindsay.

And now it's official: Eastern Washington is my favorite FCS squad. Looks like I'm gonna have to grab some Eagles gear on Amazon!

Western Kentucky Dancer Getting Some Extension

It always amazes me when I see pictures like this. How does a human being do that with their body? I'm not sure this Western Kentucky dancer is even human, honestly. Most people would pull a muscle even thinking about doing something like that!

Arizona State's Haley

The cheerleaders of Arizona State have long been considered one of the hottest cheer squads on the planet. After all, there's a reason they have been featured on College Cheerleader Heaven 38 times since our inception in 2009. That being said, we've only had 4 cheerleader features from Tempe: Emily Jo, Megan-Lynn, Nadine & Amira.

But the last feature was in 2013 and that is unacceptable. Fortunately I had a feature all lined up with ASU junior cheerleader Haley. A health sciences major, Haley says she decided to dance at Arizona State because dance is a passion that she could not give up. She considers herself a performer, not just an athlete. Dance is not just a hobby for Haley. She spends 15-20 hours a week dancing & doing appearances with her squad. That is dedication.

After college Haley hopes to continue pursuing her passion by becoming a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader and working as an athletic trainer & nutrition counselor for a collegiate or professional sports program. Sounds like a pretty good plan to me. I truly hope Haley gets to pursue her dream and her passion moving forward. And when she's on the sidelines in Arlington, just remember where you saw her first!

Cheerleaders of Big Monday: (17) Texas v. (9) Iowa State

This game loses a little luster with both teams coming off a loss (especially the Cyclones' inexplicable loss to Texas Tech), but I'm still excited to see which team can rebound and keep themselves in the Big 12 race. I don't think spirits have been this high around Iowa State for a long time, so I would expect Hilton Coliseum to be off the hook tonight.

But don't count out Texas. The Longhorns actually played Kansas pretty close on Saturday before falling off late. I think the Longhorns could surprise some teams come March this year. They get their first shot at the Mayor tonight!

Vanderbilt is Having a Tough Year

Things have definitely been better for fans of the Vanderbilt Commodores. At this point, the 'Dores have a combined 1 SEC win in football and men's basketball. Ouch, that's rough. Fortunately baseball season gets started soon and Vanderbilt is damn good there. In fact, they will start the season ranked #1 in the country as they look to defend their national title.

Plus, they still have the Commodores cheerleaders and dancers. So not all is lost in Nashville.

Are We Happy Joe Paterno is the All Time Wins King Again?

A recently settled lawsuit between some Pennsylvania state officials and the NCAA has (among other things) returned Joe Paterno to the top of the all time wins list in Division 1 college football. I'm not sure how I feel about it, honestly. Of course there were some terrible things going on inside those Penn State locker rooms, but I'm not sure how they have any bearing on the game itself.

Regardless, I have no doubt Penn State fans are happy about the removal of a giant cloud from over their program. Now they can focus on going after Big 10 titles and giving the Penn State dancers something to dance about on Saturday afternoons again.

Louisville Cheerleaders Bust Out the Standing Overhead Cheer Circle

We're still trying to get the term "Overhead Cheer Circle" to catch on for this fairly common type of group cheerleader picture. It's a tough road to hoe, but we're up for the battle.  But then the Louisville cheerleaders throw me for a loop and break out the standing Overhead Cheer Circle. I didn't even know that was a thing.

Missouri State is Pumped About Their New Football Coach

The football program at Missouri State University has been pretty average (at best) FCS squad for the last 3 decades or so. But the Bears are looking to change that after a home run hire for their new head coach. Fresh off a nomination as the D-1 coordinator of the year, Mizzou defensive coordinator Dave Steckel takes over the reigns in Springfield starting right now.

I think this is a great hire for the Bears. Steckel is a damn good coach & someone that can turn around that program. It looks like the MSU Sugar Bears might actually have something to cheer about in the very near future.

Oregon Cheerleader Kimmi is Here to Cheer Up Despondent Oregon Football Fans

If there are any Oregon football fans out there still swimming in a sea of despair over the Ducks' loss to Ohio State in the inaugural college football championship game, then I'm here to brighten their spirits. I'm not going to offer any sage advice or psychological healing practices. I am going to make it all feel OK the only way I know how: WITH CHEERLEADERS.

One cheerleader specifically. Three year veteran Oregon Ducks cheerleader Kimmi is the perfect way for Oregon fans to realize this lose is not the end of the world. After all, there's always next year. And that means another shot at the title and another season of Kimmi on the sidelines.

The junior Applied Economics major has one more year in Oregon before she heads off to real world and some kind of business administration job in a big city. Beyond that, Kimmi plans to travel the world once she leaves Eugene. She already had Australia and Europe on the itinerary. But no fear Ducks fans, Kimmi has no plans to go pro early and leave you in the lurch like a certain unnamed Heisman-winnig quarterback!

Cheerleaders of Big Monday: (18) Oklahoma v. (9) Kansas

With the end of the college football season, I have been kicking around ideas for new features for College Cheerleader Heaven. We've already instituted Cheer Selfie Saturday to great success, but I felt like we needed more.

During football season we spend our Mondays on the Weekly Winners feature that highlights upsets from the previous weekend. To replace that for a bit, I think we'll start highlighting the Cheerleaders of Big Monday. ESPN almost always has a great slate of college basketball games on Monday nights, so it seems like a perfect transition from a football mindset to a basketball mindset.

The best game on this Monday's docket is a battle of ranked Big 12 foes that could both really use a win tonight. The Kansas Jayhawks succumbed to Hilton Magic this weekend and fell behind in-state rival Kansas State for 1st in the conference. Oklahoma is already on the verge of falling out of the conference title race, so a win here would be a huge (albeit unlikely) step in the right direction.
